Pilates and Pastries

Me and Jessie on a coffee date

I’ll start with a disclaimer that my daughter is now 12, and I have very rose tinted glasses about my maternity leave with her. I lived in Bristol at the time and was very lucky that there was a huge number of baby led activities right on my doorstep. We went to yoga, baby sign class, music classes, baby friendly coffee shops and many, many playgroups.

The main reason I went to these activities was community. It was making friends who had been through or were going through the same challenges as me.
Life as a new mum can be quite lonely, you can feel quite tied to your home, with all the naps and feeding and changing nappies making going out tricky sometimes.

My hope for this class is to build a little community here in Herefordshire. We’ll do some pilates because it’s amazing for rebuilding strength in our bodies after having a baby but it can be as gentle as you need if you’ve had a terrible nights sleep. Some weeks your baby will sleep the whole time or be very happy and you’ll get a great workout, other times you might end up feeding most of the time but you’ll be out and about and seeing people.

Then I’ll make you some coffee and bake some pastries and you guys can hang out!

Some things you need to know:
- You need to have sign off to exercise
this normally happens around 6 weeks after birth, speak to your midwife or Dr if you are concerned about anything
- Babes in arms only, no crawlers or other children
You will need a car seat or bassinet and be able to carry them 150m-ish from your car, and a changing mat

A bit about Growan:
The studio is in a field behind a gravel driveway with plenty of parking, with a wood chip path so prams etc would be difficult and also get muddy. The toilets are compost loos so you’ll need to change your baby in the space (everyone will be in the same boat!).
